  About SAC

  The Shenandoah Arts Council is a 501(c)3 non profit organization working to foster awareness and appreciation of our community's diverse cultural heritage, showcase local artists and art organizations, and strengthen arts education in our community.  We serve the Northern Shenandoah Valley, including the city of Winchester and the counties of Frederick, Clarke, Shenandoah and Warren

MISSION: To celebrate and develop the region as a center of artistic exploration, exchange and education, thereby enriching the entire community

GOALS: To foster awareness and appreciation of our community's diverse cultural heritage and to promote cultural tourism: develop and implement programs to showcase local artists and art organizations; strengthen arts education in local schools and in our community.

What we do:

  • Provide performances and exhibitions of general and specific interest not otherwise available to our commuinity
  • Promote artistic endeavor withing the community by showcasing individual artists and artistic groups, sponsoring workshops and classes.
  • Maintain a Registry of Artists - a database of over 500 local artists, musicians, theatre, dance, and literary professionals.
  • Promote artistic presence within the schools through workshops, internships, exhibits and performances.
  • Inform the community of art and arts related events and activities within the region.
  • Partnership with other community agencies, public and private, that are engaged in activities supporting our mission.
  • Promote the work of the Shenandoah Arts Council within the community and identify and obtain funds and other resources to further these goals.
  • Administer the First Friday "Celebration of the Arts and Old Town Winchester
  • Administer the Marion Park Lewis Foundation Grants
