The Shenandoah Arts Council does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, hiring and firing of staff, selection of volunteers and vendors, and provision of services. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our staff, clients, volunteers, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
We at ShenArts are humbled to be part of a vibrant, caring local community, and yet we are not shielded from what happens outside of it.
Never before has it been more clear that inaction and silence will not lead to real change. For that reason we feel it is our responsibility as a community institution and member based organization to not just be a silent supporter of equitable treatment for all, but to make it clear that we condemn racism, systemic oppression, and white supremacy in all forms and firmly believe in the constitutional right to protest peacefully. We must be part of the effort towards justice and realize that we can only help create it through standing with our Black artists, members, colleagues, and community.
Art has traditionally held many roles, but it has always been available for all who seek to use it as means of self expression, healing, and understanding. It shines a light on our humanity and reveals the world honestly, through a multitude of experiences. ShenArts is committed to becoming a stronger ally through awareness, connections, the partnerships we build, and by supporting all artistic voices.
