Opal Moon

$1,270.00

“Opal Moon” represents the colors and textures of nature as gemstone. This theme is one to which I have often returned in representing earth and cosmos of the growing seasons.  The selection of color is original to this painting. Encaustic as a medium is comprised of heated pigmented beeswax and I find that in its creative fluid state lucky accidents influence the direction of work.  This has a sense of mystery for the inherent characteristics of beeswax I believe expressive of atmospheric and natural subjects.

Ever-changing light illuminates the Blue Ridge Mountains of my home. More than superficial appearance, this environment suggests subject and also a place in which a journey in paint begins.

Description

Opal Moon –   Encaustic   — 18 x 18 x 2 inch panel

Encaustic (beeswax, resin, pigment) is a painting process whereby molten-pigmented beeswax is brushed, poured and carved on the surface of a wood panel.  Texture and luminous surface is created through the addition of many layers of medium that is heated and fused.  The fluidity of the medium allows an expressive and innovative creative process.
