A Celebration of Accomplishments, A Look Forward
This year ShenArts recognizes Mark Lore, founder of the Magic Lantern Theater, to receive the Hearts for the Arts award. Please join us in honoring Mark at our Annual Meeting for the significant impact he has made on the arts in the Northern Shenandoah Valley.
Under Mark’s leadership, for more than 21 years, the Magic Lantern Theater has provided our community with a wide variety of cinematic entertainment – including “art house” dramas, comedies and documentaries at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, Handley Library, the Barns of Rose Hill, and outdoor summer screenings in downtown Winchester and Frederick County Parks.
Sadly, the Covid pandemic has contributed to the decision to close out the Magic Lantern Theater activities by next summer and utilize remaining resources for future film education and production in the Northern Shenandoah Valley.
Please note: Office Hours: By appointment only. All staff members continue to serve ShenArts members during COVID-19 by working from home.
ArtScape 13
Since 2009, the Shenandoah Arts Council (ShenArts) has partnered with the Old Town Advancement Commission (OTAC) to create an outdoor gallery in the historic district of downtown Winchester, Virginia. Artists of all ages are invited to participate in this juried art competition. Selected works are reproduced on banners that hang on light posts throughout the downtown area for a full year.
