Mary Margaret Barbe is an amateur photographer who lives in Frederick County, Virginia. Her appreciation for country living is rooted in a childhood spent in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and manifested in the primary focus of her photography.
Perspectives on farm and small town life, nature, objects and architecture, shine through the use of various photography, color and graphic techniques as she explores and expands her budding artistry. “I encourage myself to recognize beauty in both the obvious and not so obvious and I take great joy in documenting what I see.” She explains, “If these images also enrich the life of the viewer, that is especially gratifying.”
A recent arrival to the world of art and photo competition, Barbe’s work has gained local acknowledgement. Her farm landscape, Rainbow Field, was recognized with an honorable mention from the nationally known and distinguished photographer, Ken Garrett, in the amateur category of the 2018 Clarke County (Virginia) Conservation Easement Authority photo contest. Her works, Sunrise Celebration and Tower of Voices, were honored by inclusion in the Outdoor Gallery experience, Artscape 10 and 11, respectively, on the Old Town Winchester (Virginia) Pedestrian Mall and exhibited in ShenArts' Art in the Halls juried show at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. Her photography has also appeared in the City of Winchester informational calendar.
