Shenandoah: The Long View

An Exhibition at the Winchester Regional Airport

From mountain ridges and winding roads to working farms, historic towns, and changing communities, the Shenandoah Valley is a place best understood through many perspectives. Shenandoah: The Long View invites artists to explore the region’s expansive landscapes, distinctive character, and evolving story through large-scale works of art.

Artists may find inspiration in the Valley’s natural features, architecture, people, traditions, wildlife, and everyday scenes. Work may reflect a sweeping physical view or offer a deeper perspective on the memories, relationships, histories, and experiences that give this region its identity.

The exhibition welcomes both traditional and contemporary approaches. Landscapes, portraits, abstractions, photography, mixed media, and conceptual interpretations are encouraged. Artists do not need to depict a recognizable location; submissions may express a personal sense of place through color, texture, atmosphere, pattern, or symbolism.

Presented in the open public setting of Winchester Regional Airport, the exhibition is especially suited to larger works with a strong visual presence. Artists are encouraged to consider scale, composition, and the way their work will engage viewers both from a distance and upon closer examination.

Together, the selected works will offer a broad and layered portrait of the Shenandoah Valley— honoring its enduring beauty while considering how the region has changed, what it represents today, and what may lie ahead.

• Up to 3 submissions

• Artwork title(s), medium, size (unframed), year

• Short artist statement (max 250 words)

• Bio (max 150 words)

Selection Process

Works will be selected based on conceptual strength, relevance to the theme, and artistic quality.

 

​

• This exhibit will take place at the Winchester Regional Airport, all artwork drop off and pickup will take place there unless otherwise noted. 

• ShenArts handles all promotion and sales and takes a 30% commission of the retail price. No price changes will be accepted at drop off. Any price changes must be submitted and approved 7 days before drop off. 

• Work must be picked up by the provided date. If work is not picked up on the provided date and other arrangements for pick up have not been made, a $5/day charge will be instated. Work becomes the property of ShenArts after 14 days. 

• Artist checks are cut within 30 days from the last day of the show.

• Selected artwork must be ready to hang at a professional standard

• ShenArts reserves the right to select work based on cohesion and suitability for the space.
