ArtScape Call For Art

ARTSCAPE 12 ARTIST/SPONSOR SCHEDULE

March 27 – sponsorships/artist submissions deadline
April 3 – artists notified of selection
April 5-8 – original artwork delivered to ShenArts
April 9-17 – artwork photographed and digital transfer to banner will begin
April 19-24 – original art hung at MSV; opening reception shortly thereafter
May – banner production completed
June – ArtScape brochure produced; images added to ShenArts website
July – banners hung, brochures distributed downtown and to sponsors
TBD – Artist Walk Event – Artists will be at their banners to welcome the public

Please keep in mind when selecting art to submit for consideration in the ArtScape program that the banners are printed and hung with a vertical orientation and the jury will take this into consideration when making selections. Chosen artwork that is horizontal in orientation will be reduced in size to fit the banner design and any artwork that can not be made to easily fit the format might not be considered. Selected artwork may not contain any trademarked items, refer directly to any business or enterprise, or be comprised of any image intended to advertise any individual, business, or enterprise.

Call for entries for ArtScape 12. ArtScape 12 is organized by ShenArts in collaboration with Old Town Winchester and is supported by local sponsors.

    The Shenandoah Arts Council accepts the Artworks for the proposed exhibition during the specified dates and agrees with the Artist/Agent to the below Terms and Conditions.
  • 1. All works must remain on display at the MSV for the duration of time specified in this agreement.
    2. No additional security measures will be provided at the MSV beyond locked doors and windows during
    closed hours, security cameras, and routine patrol by trained security personnel.
    3. LIABILITY: Neither the MSV, nor ShenArts will insure the Artworks or be liable for any damages, destruction, theft, or other harm that may occur while on display.
    4. The artist is responsible for the timely delivery and pick-up of the Artworks. When delivering work to ShenArts, please remember that the work will be making a second trip to the MSV, so package it accordingly. ShenArts and the MSV are not responsible for any damage that might occur during transport between the two locations.
    5. ShenArts and the MSV retain final approval regarding content, design, and layout of the Artworks and any
    accompanying interpretive text.
    6. Installation will be performed by the combined exhibition team from ShenArts and the MSV.
    7. ShenArts will promote the exhibition and sales through media contacts and the Council’s social media
    accounts and website.
    8. ShenArts will provide the artist’s contact information to persons interested in work.
    9. Any work sold during the exhibition will be delivered to the purchaser upon the closing of the show.
    10. TERMS OF SALE: ShenArts collects a commission of 30% of the retail price of the artwork. Payment to the
    artist shall be made within 30 days of the show’s closing.
    12. Images of the Artwork, as well as virtual exhibition videos containing the Artwork, may remain on the ShenArts website in perpetuity as an archive of the exhibition.

  • 1. Deliver work framed and ready for hanging, or provide display support for 3-D works. All framed work must have hook eyes and wire, D-rings or similar hardware. Neither saw tooth hangers nor wet paint will be permitted. Frames, mats and glass should be clean and presented in a professional manner.

    2. Provide an additional artist statement/bio upon request.

    3. Artist will pick up any unsold work promptly upon close of the exhibition. Any work that remains at ShenArts beyond 60 days of the closing of the exhibition will be considered abandoned and become the sole property of ShenArts.

    4. Artist grants ShenArts and the MSV non-exclusive rights to the copyrighted materials submitted to be used in digital and print promotion of the exhibition.

    5. The undersigned does hereby acknowledge that the work selected for the ArtScape banner project may be edited by ShenArts in order to meet design requirements. While ShenArts reserves the right to crop any artwork that does not easily fit the standardized banner format, all efforts will be made to do so only when necessary and in such a way as to minimize the alteration of the artwork. All artists whose work must be cropped will receive a proof of the banner design before printing.

    By signing below, the artist/agent certifies and agrees that:

    1) They have lawful authority to manage, display, distribute, and sell the Artworks submitted, the Artworks are original and authentic.
    2) No license or other right has been granted to any person or organization that would limit or restrict the public display of the Artworks by ShenArts.
